What We Do

As the legal profession became more and more specialized . . . we missed the memo. While we do limit our practice to litigation and trials, we do not limit ourselves to a particular practice area. As you will see in the list below, we handle a wide array of complex commercial, criminal, and civil rights litigation.

We see ourselves as capable problem solvers who have developed a high-level expertise in how to use the tools of litigation and trials to bring about excellent results for individuals, families, and companies, both public and private.

We practice extensively in state and federal court, before government agencies, and in arbitrations and mediations. Our practice is national in scope, often utilizing close partnerships with local counsel from leading law firms around the country.

Complex Business Litigation

We represent businesses and individuals, as plaintiffs or defendants, in a wide variety of business-related disputes, including:

  • Contract Disputes

  • Executive Employment Disputes

  • Non-Compete Agreements

  • Shareholder and Partnership Disputes

  • Breach of Fiduciary Duty Cases

  • Tortious Interference Cases

  • Commercial Fraud Cases

  • Consumer Fraud and Protection Cases

  • Unfair Competition Cases

  • Whistleblower Actions

  • Product Liability Cases

  • Defamation and Libel

  • Deceptive Business Practices

Criminal Defense

We represent businesses, executives, public officials, and other individuals in a wide range of white-collar investigations and prosecutions. Stuart’s experience as a former federal prosecutor is an invaluable asset to this practice area. Indeed, Stuart is one of very few lawyers who has represented plaintiffs, defendants, and the government in whistleblower cases. In addition, the firm handles:

  • White Collar Criminal Defense

  • Internal Corporate Investigations

  • Grand Jury Subpoenas

  • Search Warrants

  • Whistleblower Claims

  • Whistleblower Defense

  • Attorney Discipline before the ARDC

Wrongful Convictions & Civil Rights Litigation

We represent individuals who have been framed by our flawed criminal justice system and have been wrongfully convicted and imprisoned for crimes they did not commit, and we have had extraordinary success in this area.

  • Exonerations

We have obtained the release and exoneration of five clients, who collectively spent more than 100 years in prison for crimes they did not commit and are now all free men.

Working in teams with other exoneration lawyers, we have been involved in the exoneration of a total of 14 individuals who were wrongfully convicted and spent more than 230 years in prison for crimes they did not commit and are now all free men.

  • Civil Rights

We have repeatedly sued the Chicago Police Department and have taken extremely complex civil rights cases through litigation and trial. In those cases, we have obtained jury verdicts of $25M and $13.4M, and pretrial settlements of $16M and 10M.

We are currently doing pro bono work for several other wrongfully convicted clients, as well as expanding our practice to represent inmates being denied adequate medical care inside our nation’s prisons and jails.
